This pattern has 3 parts the body (the waves), the border prepare and then the shell border.
The body (waves)
I found the pattern for the waves HERE (MyPicot.com/0033). (This site has lots of patterns I can't wait to try!).
Border prepare
Once I had the body of the blanket the size I wanted I needed to straighten the top and bottom edges. I did this with 2 rows.
1st Row. I used 5 sc (over the top of the wave) and then going down each side I did 3 hdc followed by 3dc. I skipped the bottom middle stitch.
2nd Row. I only used 4hdc in the dip (again skipping the bottom middle). The rest of the stitches are just sc.
I also did a row of sc down each side of the blanket (adding a sc - 2ch - sc) for the corners.
Shell Border
Now the only thing left is the border. I decided on a shell border.
Start anywhere on one of the sides.
1st Row (white) Join with 3ch and 5 dc in same stitch (6dc shell). skip 2 and sc into 3rd stitch. skip 2 and make next shell the 3rd stitch.
For the corners: Do a 9dc shell.
*If you find that a shell doesn't line up with the corner, don't worry. Just do a few shells with a skip 1 on one side (instead of skip 2 on both sides). No one will notice! I also prefer to only skip 1 on each side of the corner shell, but try out what works best for you!
Once you get back to where you started cut and join to top of starting chain.
2nd Row (Light Blue). Turn the blanket (So this time you crochet the other way around blanket). Join the wool at any sc. 4ch and dc into same sc (a V-Stitch). Make your way around the blanket with V-stitches (dc - ch - dc) in the sc between the shells.
*If like me you like the crossover look just do the 1st dc on the left-hand side of the sc and the 2nd dc on the right-hand side.
For the corners: After last V-stitch 3ch and sc in 4th dc. 2ch. sc in next dc. 3ch. next V-stitch.
Once you get back to the starting chain join with slip stitch to 3rd chain.
3rd Row (Still Light Blue). 3ch and 7dc into same V-Stitch. sc into top of white shell (capturing the blue chain). 8dc in all V-Stitches (Shells) and sc into top of all white shells.
For the corners: Make the sc in the 2nd dc of the white shell. The corner shell (in the 2ch space) should be 9dc. The last sc should be in the 2nd dc from the last of the white shell.
After last sc cut and join to the top of the starting chain.
4th Row (Dark Blue). Turn blanket again. Join and 4ch to any light blue sc. [sc - 2ch - sc] (picot) into the top each shell. [3ch - sc -3ch] into each light blue sc.
For the corners: [sc - 2ch - picot - 2ch - picot - 2ch - sc] evenly around.
After last 3ch cut and join to 2nd ch of starting Chain.
All that is left is to weave in any ends that remain and to block!

This is my 1st attempt at writing crochet patterns (or at least part of one). If something doesn't make sense please let me know. I'll be happy to help.
Could you please provide the number of stitches you cast on for a full size afghan. Please send your answer to me: bbrown2621@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteThank you
I'm sorry to say I don't remember how many stitches I used. I normally make the chain as long as I would like the width of the blanket to be.
DeleteI just lay the chain out flat (NOT stretched) and make it the width I like. You do need to keep count of the number of stitches as the pattern is multiple of 18 + 2.
But each time it's made it will be different. Unless the same wool, hook and gauge is used.
I hope this helps!
I was unable to get the instructions for the body due to a 403 Forbidden error code.
ReplyDeleteCould/would you send me the link to get these instructions, please? Or the website where this pattern resides? gwamah@gmail.com

ReplyDeleteHi there! I love this pattern and the look of the blanket! I can't wait to get started :) Quick question though. How much yarn did you use and what hook size (in US terms, if possible)? I have 4 skeins(7oz/364yds each) of Super Value yarn that I would love to put towards this pattern. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi. I'm sorry to say that I forgot to keep track of how much yarn I used.
DeleteI don't live in the US and I have never seen Super Value yarn.
I used KATIA PLANET (aran weight) yarn and a 5.5mm hook (in US I/9). The hook was 1 size up from the recommended.
I originally bought 200g (7oz) of each colour, a total of 1kg (35oz). I know I ran out and had to buy more, but I don't remember how much of the second lot I used.
As the pattern has lots of puff stitches it uses lots more yarn than expected!
Sorry I couldn't help more.
Hope you do make the blanket, It is lovely and warm!
Hello again. By the numbers you gave, you helped a lot! It seems you did use a 'super value' lot :) Thanks for the hook size as well, that helps a bunch! I look forward to this blanket, and am happy I found a warm blanket as well!
DeleteI am having problems down loading the pattern. Is there anyway you could e-mail the pattern to me. I love your pattern and don't understand why I'm having such a problem down loading it.

ReplyDeleteThank you, you are correct. The website is mypicot.com!!
DeleteHi. I have been crocheting for almost 30 years (I learner as a child). I am fascinated by this pattern, however I am easily confused by charts. Do you have a complete written pattern?
ReplyDeleteHi, The written pattern is on the Mypicot web site: https://mypicot.com/0033.html
DeleteThere are also lots of photos of each row. Hope this helps!
Hello , i can't download the chart for the "waves". Could you please send me an email ? gizmo.michiels@gmail.com . Thank you.
ReplyDeletePlease could you tell me is this is written in UK terms ? I live in the USA and for your stitches, you have dc/sc. does this mean it is DC for the UK and SC for the USA, THANK YOU for your time...
ReplyDeleteThe pattern from Mypicot.com is written in both UK and USA. So you are correct. dc/sc means DC in UK and SC in USA.
DeleteThe parts written by me on this blog are only in USA.
I hope this helps!
Sorry but my phone will not download this pattern this pattern can you please email this to me I would love to make this blanket in the pattern I'm trying to learn and it sounds like it's a very easy pattern to understand thank you for your help email rmoomaw53@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteEmail sent. I Hope you enjoy it!
DeleteIts it suppose to curl up? As you work up the pattern. I have also croched a looser chain also. And ut curls up really bad.
ReplyDeleteIs their away to fix this.
If possible please get back to me. So i can fix it. It is such a great pattern.
With the dc/sc am i suppose to put both the dc and sc in the same space. Or is it double crochet all of the length?
DeleteHi. Mine didn't curl up. But I did do a very loose starting chain.
DeleteAs for the dc/sc it is 1 stitch. If you use USA terms it's a DC and in UK terms a SC.
Hope this helps!

Any little boy or girl who loves trucks will like these Monster Trucks Socksmith Kids Novelty Socks. These kids novelty socks are perfect for active youngsters, which is something I really value as a parent. My 6-year-old's feet are pleased all day long because to the material's breathability and comfort. The design is amazing, and I love how the cheerful patterns and vivid colours make getting ready in the mornings a little less of a chore. All things considered, these socks are the perfect combination of form and function!
